Dr. Jennifer Mishra is Coordinator of Music Education at SIUC. She received her Bachelor of Music Education degree (viola) from The University of Northern Colorado where she worked as associate director of the UNC String Project. She holds a Masters of Music Education degree and a PhD from Kent State University.

Before coming to SIUC, Dr. Mishra was Coordinator of Music Education at the University of Houston, Associate Director of the School of Music and Assistant Professor of Graduate Music Education at the University of Northern Iowa. Prior to that she was an orchestra director and general music teacher in Alton, Illinois and Westminster, Colorado.

Dr. Mishra researches in the area of music cognition, specifically focusing on performance memory. Her articles have appeared in Psychology of Music, Psychomusicology, Bulletin of the Council for Research in Music Education, Update: Applications of Research in Music Education, Contributions to Music Education, Research Perspectives in Music Education, Journal of String Research, and Asia Pacific Journal for Arts Education. She has also presented at conferences hosted by the Society for Research in Psychology of Music and Music Education, and at the International Conference of Music Perception and Cognition, Desert Skies: Symposium on Research in Music Education, and MayDay Group Colloquium XI.

A specialist in graduate and continuing studies, Dr. Mishra teaches courses that focus on leadership training and the pragmatic understanding of research and statistics, psychology of music, and philosophy of music education.

An active clinician and author, Dr. Mishra has presented on topics in string education, distance education, world musics, and the use of technology in the classroom at numerous state and national conferences of the Music Educators National Conference, the American String Teachers Association, and the International Society of Music Education. She has published pedagogical articles in Teaching Music, General Music Today, American String Teacher, and Flute Talk. She has served as a technology consultant for Glencoe/McGraw-Hill and her arrangements for string orchestra are published by Alfred Publishing.
